Our skin is a living organ of the body that breathes. Unlike all other organs of the body it needs the nutrients not only from inside but at the same time from outside. The skin is the physical and emotional up-front of the body. This is the reason that aging seen on our skin is not chronological but biological.

This aging can be delayed or if properly treated can even be reversed with a natural and holistic approach that includes lifestyle, diet and good quality products.

The remaining face can be cleansed with the cleanser. Remember to include the skin area around eyebrows, nose and hairline. These are the skin areas where normally makeup becomes ingrained and cause spots.

After cleansing put some toner on the cotton pad and rub it across skin.  Avoid using alcohol based toners as they are harsh.

Now I’m sure that you are aware of the basic rules of skin care. If even after all positive diet and lifestyle changes you still have the feeling that your skin does not reflect the inside of your body then you must take a professional advice.

A basic skin care regimen involves cleansing skin twice a day with a mild cleanser. Soap is also an alternative here but normally it makes the skin dry and it is also harsh on eyes. Still gentle soaps can be used. Whatever cleanser or soap you choose, only do mild scrubbing.

In the evening take the start by removing the lipstick. Wipe it off from the lip line towards the center of the mouth. Then proceed to remove eye shadow and mascara. This can be carried out with the help of an eye cleanser on the cotton pad. Close your eyes and rub gently towards the lashes. The skin of eyelids is delicate, so be gentle and careful. After removing mascara use a clean pad with a small amount of cleanser and rub it along the eyelids going towards the hairline.

Oxidative damage

It explains the damage caused by the free radicals at the molecular level.

Glycation

It is a process of bonding of proteins and sugar that destroys the function of protein mass of skin.

Inflammation

The process of repair becomes more prevalent and damaging as the person ages.

Senescence

In this process cells stop dividing

Aged skin is characterized by age spots, wrinkles and decrease in elasticity. We are going to look at the factors behind this aging of skin.

Wrinkles can be formed due to several reasons. These include decrease in the production of vital proteins of the skin and at the same time decline in tension of underlying skin muscles. Sometimes a consistent tension in the muscles and continuous movement of lip and brow region can cause wrinkles there.

The problems of the skin can be found at two levels.

  • Chronic problem
  • Acute problem

Chronic Problem

Chronic skin problem are the ones that develop gradually and lasts for longer time. Examples of such common problems are premature aging, different types of acne, dermatitis and rosacea. Chronic problems may arise because of many reasons. It can be genetic or may arise because of the lifestyle. Some chronic problems tend to stay with the person throughout his life.

Acute Problem

These are the problems that start suddenly and are short-lived. Some acute problems are viral and heal on their own; still other needs an antibiotic treatment. The examples of some acute skin problems are fungal rashes, herpes and shingles. These acute problems are out of the walls of skin care and have to be treated by dermatologists.

We cannot survive without essential fatty acids.  They are particularly important for the people suffering from inflammatory skin problems like eczema and acne. They are also equally important for the person with dry skin. The individuals who are deficient in essential fats usually find bumps on the back side of their arms. One must include the following in their diet

Flax Seed and Walnut Oil

These oils can be used as salad dressings.

Cold Water Fish

Salmon and Sardines are excellent source of essential fatty acids.

Supplements

One can also choose some fish oil supplement

The process of consuming excess sugar leads to glycation. It is a process in which a molecule of sugar attaches itself with a molecule of protein and sticks with it. The new molecule which is combination of two is termed AGE (advanced glycation end-product). The AGE has the capacity of damaging collagen present in ligaments, cartilage and skin. It also triggers the loss of elasticity and turgor. Skin starts to sag and wrinkle formation also starts.

It is really important that to reduce the intake of sugar.  A person can simply take the start by reducing the amount of sugar in the cup of tea or coffee. Each week one can find a way to lower down the intake of sugar. This will certainly reduce the risk of glycation.
